Teacher, Hutchison High School | Fairbanks, AK
At Fairbanks’ Hutchison High School, health occupations teacher Megan Eilers received a Milken Educator Award on January 30, 2024.
Eilers draws from her experiences in the field as a registered nurse to expose students to realistic and lifesaving healthcare scenarios. Her students often receive First Aid, CPR and pharmacy technician certifications and can become a certified nursing assistant upon completion of her health occupations program through a partnership with the university system and district. Eilers invites local healthcare professionals to speak in her classroom and has offered a placenta lab and dissection for students. Eilers serves on the district’s Health Science Advisory Committee and participates in PLC meetings and professional development. She is a Health Occupations Students of America advisor and has served on the leadership team, where she helped create a “Workplace Readiness” system for students.
Eilers earned her Associate of Applied Science in nursing from the University of Alaska Anchorage in 2009 as well as a Bachelor and Master of Science in nursing from Western Governors University in 2020 and 2022, respectively.
