Assistant Principal and Dean of Students, Compass Academy | Idaho Falls, ID
Kelly Sheridan radiates a passion for helping students and colleagues as assistant principal and dean of students at Compass Academy – a project-based 9-12 magnet school in Idaho Falls. She received a Milken Educator Award on February 21, 2024.
The former art teacher impacts campus climate by infusing art into curricula, serving as an instructional leader, and forming trusted relationships with faculty. Sheridan greets students, collaborates with colleagues and communicates with parents. Her involvement in Compass’ Guiding Coalition provides frameworks for teachers to meet state standards. Sheridan’s knowledge and organization of state testing helps determine improvements for the following year, resulting in high rates by district and state metrics. Her community involvement includes family outreach events, partnerships with local businesses to display student work, the Idaho Association of School Administrators, the district’s graduation committee, school safety committee and summer school director.
Sheridan earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in studio art with a minor in art education in 2015 from James Madison University and a Master of Education in educational leadership from the University of Idaho in 2021.
