Shelley Terry (MA '23)
Teacher, Plymouth North High School | Plymouth, MA
Shelley Terry fosters a love of language, literature and learning at Plymouth North High School. She received a Milken Educator Award on October 20, 2023.
Many of her students have become television journalists, producers, editors and reporters, exposed to the industry through her Plymouth North News course. Her techniques involve transforming her classroom into a restaurant with Socratic discussions, “broadcast carpool karaoke” and an April Fools’ Day broadcast. Teaching some of the most requested courses, Terry helps her AP language students consistently perform at high levels and develops specialized plans for those needing support. Beyond the classroom, Terry has led the ELA department for ten years as well as advises the school newspaper and National Honor Society. She spearheaded professional development for special education, English Learners, and DEIB strategies. A valued member of the community, Terry participates in NHS students’ tutoring sessions, after-school engagement programs and philanthropic efforts.
Terry received a Bachelor of Arts in English teaching and justice studies from the University of New Hampshire in 2006 and a Master of Arts in Teaching in English from Bridgewater State College in 2011.
