SSGT Michael P. Barrera Veterans Elementary Master Teacher Juan Dominguez received a Milken Educator Award on April 3, 2024.
A former fourth and fifth grade teacher, bilingual lead teacher and mentor teacher, Dominguez harnesses his classroom experience and content knowledge in his work on the school leadership team. Through a district partnership with the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching, Dominguez and his colleagues develop effective instructional strategies, model classroom delivery, and provide regular feedback to drive improvement. Dominguez received master teacher recognition under the state’s Teacher Incentive Allotment and has opened his doors to the Texas Education Agency to see his teaching in action. With roots as a bilingual student and first-generation college graduate, Dominguez has worked his way through several aide and classroom teaching positions in Somerset Independent School District. He is a member of the bilingual team and has facilitated a districtwide study of culture called "Feria Mundial."
Dominguez earned his Bachelor of Arts in human performance and physical education, and sports administration from Colorado’s Adams State University in 2010.
