Comfort Agboola (IL '23)
Teacher, Edgar Allan Poe Classical Elementary School | Chicago, IL
At Chicago’s Edgar Allan Poe Classical Elementary School, Comfort Agboola serves as a 6-8 reading, English language arts and math teacher. She received a Milken Educator Award on February 2, 2024.
Agboola’s students learn about typewriter mechanics and explore personal narratives through written essays, presentations and “open mics.” Providing relatable, interest-driven curriculum, Agboola teaches financial literacy using a classroom economy system. While sharing her expertise at the district level as a teacher leader under Poe’s Network 13, Agboola serves as Poe’s middle school lead teacher and plays a key role on the instructional leadership team and Leader in Me Lighthouse Team. Additionally, Agboola offers coaching, workshops and tutoring in the community while engaging in partnerships with the Pulitzer Center, Chicago Poetry Center, and more. Extending learning outside of the classroom, Agboola’s students have participated in a “tech day” collaboration with Microsoft, podcasting club, debate club, and Model UN.
Agboola earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from DePaul University in 2008 and a Master of Arts in psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2012.
