At V. Sue Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho, STEAM and Robotics teacher Ashli Knoell is known for her enthusiasm, innovation, and connection with her students. She received a Milken Educator Award on December 13, 2023.
Since taking over STEAM and Robotics classes a few years ago, Knoell has helped students consistently achieve at high levels in the school and district. Across three levels of classes, her classroom is a hive of activity, creativity and collaboration. Knoell integrates STEAM across subjects, partnering with community agencies and businesses, including Tamaya Ventures, TESLA and the New Mexico Regional Education Cooperatives Association. Beyond her classroom, she sponsors or co-sponsors several STEAM and robotics clubs, mentors new teachers; is a ninth grade instructional leader; and provides tutoring as coordinator of the Near Peer program. At the state level, Knoell is active with the International Society of Technology in Education’s PLCs.
Knoell received a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from the University of New Mexico in 2010 and a Master of Science for Teachers from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in 2017.
