2023-24 Milken Educators
Photo 40 of 69Krissy Long (MS '23)
Teacher, Neshoba Central Elementary | Philadelphia, MS
In Philadelphia, Kristien “Krissy” Long’s hands-on approach makes learning an immersive, engaging experience for fifth grade math and science students at Neshoba Central Elementary. She received a Milken Educator Award on January 10, 2024.
Long integrates her lessons into real-life scenarios. Examples include using the menu at a local Mexican restaurant to compute the bill, and creating YouTube videos for students and parents to understand how to solve a math or science problem. Students can track their progress and accumulate points through Classroom Dojo. Then, Long includes an end-of-the-semester auction with a trained auctioneer allowing students to bid on and “buy” items with their points. Long leads professional development workshops, shares her expertise at state conferences and district teacher advisory committees, and produces videos that address standards and provide resources to support academic success. She serves as math chairperson, orchestrating weekly PLC meetings and vertical alignment sessions.
Long earned her Bachelor of Science in elementary education in 2016 from Mississippi State University and a Master of Education in educational leadership from Mississippi College in 2023.
